Students’ Questions Get Sex Ed Teacher in Trouble
It looks like a Utah sex ed teacher is in big trouble. Why? Because she answered some of her students’ questions about sex.
A group of about 50 parents are angry and claim that a health teacher at Fort Herriman Middle School in Herriman, Utah gave their children information about sex that wasn’t part of the curriculum. Now certain lawmakers want to make it a crime for teachers to stray from the state’s sex education laws.
The teacher is a sex ed veteran with over 30 years of teaching experience. She’s in trouble because she allegedly answered students’ questions on topics outside of the curriculum, including gay sex, oral sex and masturbation.
What’s the point of sex ed if we’re not educating teens? It’s time lawmakers wake up and realize that giving teens information is helpful, not harmful. Teens have real questions about sex, and leaving them in the dark is irresponsible. And although there are Web sites like Sexetc.org for teens to get answers to their sex questions, Web sites aren’t substitutes for good, in-class sex education.

The irony involved in this…
“Sex ed teacher gets busted for explaining sex…”
that’s just like saying
“Math teacher gets busted for teaching Pythagoras”
Seriously… this is extremely upsetting.

Talk about paranoia…maybe we need to confront the root of the problem. How did sex get such a bad tag? How did sex become so wrong? Why is their so much guilt associated with sex? Why is it harmful to teach teens about something that is totally natural? Didn’t our parents have sex to give birth to us? And besides most of them were not even sure how to do it or what sex was because they were never taught. Don’t they feel they wish they knew? Not teaching teens about sex creates unplanned pregnancy, STDs, confusion. Sex education is paramount to avoiding this epidemic. All schools should teach students about sex and if they want to include abstinence before sex as one of the curriculums, that’s great, but don’t censure the other details. We want to learn about sex, everything about it, not because we are sex-crazed but because we’re curious, and there is nothing wrong with that. Parents, teachers, educators, WAKE UP!!!!

This is so wrong.
If parents don’t like their children getting correct information from a valuable source, where do they want them getting it?
My junior high health education teacher got in major trouble because she violated the abstinence only policy.
Her view was if the students asked her, she would answer anything. She didn’t bring up anything outside of the curriculum if no one asked about it.
In my eyes, if students are asking a teacher these questions, they’re not getting the information they’re wanting, and needing, from their parents.
Abstinence only is horrible. Promoting abstinence, I 100% agree with; but students still need information on STDs, birth control, pregnancy, and the emotional impact of choosing to have sex. They may not chose to have sex at the time of the class, but what about a year or two in the future?
Sex ed is the one class that, in my experience and school district, students don’t just throw off after the exams. They remember it, because inside they know they’ll have to deal with that sort of situation in their future.
If I were a parent I would prefer my child be getting information about sex from me, and if they were too embarrassed to ask, from a professional.
Kids getting answers from other kids isn’t always right, and they might not get all aspects.

Education about sexual matters is the only way to help teens come to terms with the fact that sex is not something to be taken lightly… or be ashamed of… we are a sexual being and ANY questions need answering or it could lead to big problems later for everyone… imagine if all it took was one teacher saying to you it’s okay to be gay… or masturbation is normal… to make you feel like you weren’t a complete outcast or misfit in society..!!
