I Kissed a Girl (and I Liked It)
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard Katy Perry’s hit single “I Kissed a Girl,” a song about girls kissing girls and sexual experimentation. If you haven’t heard it yet, pay attention to the lyrics and check out the video below:
Sexual experimentation is a normal part of being a teen, and, like Katy says, it’s “just human nature.” It’s a way to explore your sexuality and find out what you like or don’t like sexually. But we have to wonder: Would we ever hear a song about boys kissing boys on the radio?
There’s a belief in our culture that two girls together are hot, but two guys are not. Girls are given much more freedom than guys to express themselves sexually, and, as Katy puts it, most people think girl-on-girl kissing “ain’t no big deal, it’s innocent.” The same isn’t true for guys, though, and lots of people believe that guy-on-guy kissing is just plain wrong.
It’s awesome to hear a song on the radio that celebrates girls kissing girls. Isn’t it time we break down the double standard and accept guys kissing guys, too?

Yes, it would be awesome to hear a song about a guy kissing a guy but you know what? I’m afraid to say that society would not accept it. I mean, I would but society in general wouldn’t. I don’t know why it’s wrong when a guy kisses a guy but it’s sooo hot if a girl kisses a girl. I’d love to hear a song about a guy kissing a guy though. It’d be freakin’ groundbreaking man.

Listen closely and this song’s kinda despicable. It’s about cheating on her boyfriend, lust, and flimsy relationships. It’s only another tool by the media to promote the lust filled hookup culture that has molded the minds and attitudes of our generation for years. It validates all that and then equates this with girl-girl relationships. With this impression society will closely associate girls kissing with this lustful connotation. It’s a bad stereotype.

It is nice and very hot song. It’s really very good song. The lyrics are really very good and tune is all good, but like couldnt the lyrics have been a little different, becouse i do not what boyfriend would not mind if their girl is going around kissing other girls, and saying she liked it.

Sexual experimentation is fine, but she doesn’t know the name of the person she’s kissing– she’s using the girl, who may or may not also be experimenting, to get quick thrills, and hasn’t even spoken with her boyfriend about it or established what’s acceptable for their relationship.

I liked it. plain and simple and I am glad that someone is brave enough to announce something like that to the public.

Being bisexual, I found the song almost insulting. People that give messages such as the one in this song are the reason that female bisexuality isn’t taken seriously, but instead looked at as “experimenting” or trying to get attention.

I’m in complet agreement with Olivia, I find it just a hair shy of insulting. Things like this song are what make people roll their eyes when you say a (female) friend is bisexual. Stuff like this is actually one of the biggest reasons why I’m only out on the internet.
If people want a good example of honsty bisexuallity that ‘is just human nature’ watch the first season of BBCs Torchwood. It supports that there is no definded orientation. We’re just people and can’t help who we like.

Well i don’t mind the song, its really catchy and all… i just think that the lyrics portray experimentation to be a dirty thing. One line in the song goes “its not what good girls do”, if im not mistaken. But Katy Perry’s not stupid. She knows that if a song sounds dirty and edgy and sexy then it will sell really well. And what do u know, everbody i know has heard it and knows the words to the chorus. Controversy increases popularity. Simple as that.
