Purity Rings at the VMAs
Purity rings took center stage at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Host Russell Brand mocked the Jonas Brothers—self-proclaimed virgins that have pledged not to have sex until marriage—for wearing purity rings. Jordin Sparks, who wears a purity ring, had this to say in response: “It’s not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody—guy or girl—wants to be a slut.”
You aren’t a slut if you don’t wear a purity ring. And wearing a purity ring doesn’t make you better than people that don’t wear them.
Whether you wear a purity ring or not, deciding to refrain from sex is great. It’s the only way to completely avoid pregnancy and STDs. But if you really want to stick to your decision not to have sex AND still be fully prepared when you do have sex, a comprehensive sex education is the way to go.

jeez that was really harsh of jordan sparks to say that people are sluts if they dont wear purity rings, cuz thats basically what she said. I dont wear one, but Im not a slut Iv only kissed one guy in my whole life and just because I dont wish to wear one of those rings, and believe its okay to have sex before marriage doesnt make me a slut. jeez I bet jordan sparks isnt even a virgin and I seriously doubt that the oldest jobro is.

Wow, I hadn’t heard about this till just now. That’s really not cool. I can understand she didn’t like Russell Brand mocking the Jonas Brothers about being “self proclaimed virgins”, but that was way to far. She needs to keep herself in check and keep in mind that: A) She is not better than anyone else is just because she wears that ring B) Women are not sluts and guys are not sex addicts just because we don’t wear a promise ring C) PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OWN OPINIONS ABOUT THESE THINGS! DON’T TRY TO GET US TO THINK A CERTAIN WAY!

I think that Jordin Sparks didn’t mean it that way. I just think that she meant that not everybody is having sex and its ok to wear something like a purity ring to represent that. It definitely came out wrong tho… i just think that no one in their right mind would say something like that which could ruin their career even if she believed every word that she said.

Man im on jordan side not for the slut thing becuase I dont have a promise ring either && im still ∀ vergin. But for standing up for the jbs when dude was mockin them && their beliefs && I think itz pretty sweet for guys to wait intil mariage. But I think she coulda used her words differently.
