Teens in Trouble Over Nude Photos
Two cheerleaders at Bothell High School, near Seattle, learned the hard way that sending nude pics of themselves via text message is a bad idea. School officials found out that students were forwarding the pics to each other, so they decided to suspend the cheerleaders from the squad. Now the cheerleaders’ parents are suing the school district, alleging that the school punished the girls too harshly and failed to find out who sent the pictures around in the first place. The cheerleaders who took pics of themselves got in trouble, but the people who spread the pics weren’t punished. That seems really unfair, because according to child pornography laws, it is a crime to possess and transmit nude photos of minors. That means you could get in big trouble, not only for taking nude pics, but also for sending them via text message.
It’s OK to want to feel sexy. But taking and sending nude pics is not the way to do it, especially if you’re 17 or under. Is it really worth the risk?

I think it shows a serious problem with the law if anybody can face legal consequences for taking or possessing or distributing a picture of themself.
It’s usually not the only problem either, but moreso a sign of a significant problem of the direction of law in general. It says “is it worth the risk” but the risk of punishment is only there because we’ve put it there, and allowed it to remain there.
There are reasons independant of the legal consequences to avoid doing this, which I think would be valuable to touch upon.

It’s their body. They should be able to send them to who they want. I take nude pics for my boyfriend, can I get in trouble for that?

I think that they shouldn’t be in trouble over something like that, it’s there body and they should be able to do as they please with it, having it spread around school should was enough punishment.

they should be the ones in trouble, not other students, if they didn’t take the pics, then nothing woulda happened. they souldn’t have done it in the first place and atheltes shouldn’t be held at a higher standard than other students either. i’m a athlete (but its thru 4H) but yet i dont get half as much recgonition as say the football players.
but again, they souldn’t have done it, especially since their underage and if they didn’t want the pics to get spread around, they shouldn’t have done that, thats the chance you take.

To be honest I think there are problems with this situation. The school board should have punished the people in possession with the photos. If you are going to hold the girls responsible and punish them I feel is is only right to punish the people who have the photos to, are you only going to punish someone who brings in beer to school and not the ones who drink it. I have mixed feelings on wheter or not the girls should have been in any trouble at all. On the one hand yes it is thier bodies, and yes they should have the right to do with it what they please, but I also think that in a thing such as child pornogrophy there can be no grey area, it needs to be illegal and it is set in stone that taking, having possesion of, and distributing naked pictures of minors is illegal. From a personal point of view, things like this happen in my highschool all the time, and I think the humiliation is punishment enough for the girls
