Beyond the Birds & the Bees

A PSA on PDA

Ugh…it’s them again. Rolling my eyes, I can’t help groaning as a fresh wave of annoyance washes over me. Even from this distance, I can already see the two smitten lovebirds, kissing, grabbing and moaning in an teeens kissingintense make-out session right in front of my locker. As I hurry past them, I purposely look away to avoid an awkward confrontation.

Don’t get me wrong—I think it’s adorable when couples hold hands and kiss good-bye. What makes me uncomfortable is when they openly hook up in the middle of the hallway, without considering how other students may feel watching these public displays of affection (PDA).

When I see couples engaging in PDA, I always think that these are the ones who feel the need to validate their relationship by displaying their love for everyone to see (because they are so in love). The thing is, I really don’t want to see all that. Relationships, after all, are personal, private matters between two people. Intimate behaviors, like snuggling and kissing, should be done outside of school. Is it really that hard to wait a few hours?

After all, a healthy sense of personal space is important to any successful relationship. If you feel confident about yourself, then you will feel good about your relationships without having to publicly show your emotions. In the end, there’s nothing wrong with a little PDA; just please try to show some consideration for others.
