What really is a taboo? Something that society fades itself from. I am a Muslim and I reside in a Muslim majority country. A lot of things are discriminated as taboo here.
Safe sex and its related anything is sturdily kept away from everybody. But in a sense it seems right too, why? You see in Islam you shouldn’t have sex before marriage and even after that you should maintain a monogamy relationship. So living in a religiously intensified society means that you should comply rather than bonding away. So no sex implies as safe sex.
But then religion is to guide and who is to live - us. In other places education pertaining to safe sex seems to be the impediment but here its sex which is the taboo. With that said it means you can’t talk about it to anyone let alone your folks. But this is where it starts to get nasty, you see when you can’t talk about it, you only think of it and with sex as a bad and a big thing over here, many goes on making life altering mistakes.
Everyone presumes that every other is doin the right thing but then it’s a human pool and just like any other pool there are some good ones and not so good ones. By keeping sex as taboo you can’t educate anyone let alone masses and with a high prevailing rate of HIV we do need to address this nationally.
Our religion holds the truth, i.e. abstain from pre marital sex. But cutting off everything after that doesn’t sound reasonable to me, the govt. should support sex education programmes. There is this huge problem of the word sex, anything associated with it becomes taboo, here there is this bizarre phenomenon, people love sex like everywhere else but they are not willing to talk about it and if you push for something you get wooed at !
I think its high time we transcend these stupid layout boundaries that aren’t even instilled by our religion or by any society, they make no sense but they do remain put, weird world. I as a teenager am putting up this issue within the school, alongside others we are trying to shape out something that caters everyone.
The pursuit persists....
