The media and our society rarely portray sex as something unpleasureful. Instead, it is seen as something very wonderful, enjoyable, and irreplacable. The best thing about it too is, you get to share it with the person you are attracted to and care about the most!
With all of this layed before your eyes, you can begin to understand why it is so hard not to "do it" at times. It is seen as such a good thing. Just think about it. The second things start to heat up between you and your partner, it's almost the first thing that pops into your head. The pros of sex sometimes make the cons fade away. What we need to understand about it though, is that just like pros exist, so do cons. This is why people should definitely think before engaging in it.
Being 15 and dating a 17-year-old for over eight moths makes it increasingly hard at times for me and my boyfriend to say "no" to sex. We both share our opinions about it though, and make decisions regarding it together. I made many mistakes with my former boyfriends and it is clear to me now how I let those mistakes happen. Of what I have experienced, communication regarding sex can save you a lot of diffuculties and heartache in the future. The amount of pressure and mistakes you make decrease greatly with communication.
We all know that we are under a lot of pressure when it comes to sex as teens, especially with our bodies maturing with the help of our raging hormones. The stimulus around us doesn't make it any easier to make a decision about it either. But you have to remember, no one can make the decision for you. Before you decide to do it, THINK. Another thing you should do with your partner is COMMUNICATE. It will be much easier to tell if you are ready to "do it" or not.
In order to make good decisions regarding sex, I remind myself that it can make a relationship and life better or worse. Also, it is meant to be used in a way that expresses love and commitment to someone.
For myself, I know I am not ready and I don't know when I will be. But I also know that the day I am, the experience will be much more enjoyable and memorable than the day I wasn't.
