If I go to the gynecologist for birth control, do I have to take my clothes off?
The answer to this question depends on your health care needs.
If you are going because you are having a problem, such as pain, unusual bleeding, discharge or odor, you will most likely provide a medical history and also take some of your clothes off for a physical exam including a pelvic exam. If you are requesting a test for a sexually transmitted disease (STD) or want birth control, the gynecologist may or may not request that you remove your clothes for a full exam. If you are concerned about this, discuss it with the doctor before you remove your clothes.
If you only want birth control, including emergency contraception, you will provide a medical history but birth control probably won’t need to take your clothes off.
