Is it true that you can't get pregnant if you have sex in certain positions?

Nope—this is a myth! It doesn’t matter what position you’re in. Any time semen is inside of or right outside of the vagina, pregnancy is possible. To prevent pregnancy you must use a reliable method of birth control every time you have sex.

Keep in mind that pregnancy isn’t the only thing you have to be worried about. Besides condoms, the methods that work best to prevent pregnancy don’t do anything to prevent STDs. So it’s best to use condoms—and, for really good protection, to use condoms and another method like the Pill or shot.

Couples can get condoms and/or a hormonal method that’s best for them at a private doctor’s office or family planning clinic.
