What happens if you use drugs for a long time?
It depends on the drug. Using drugs, again and again, for a long time can cause lots of major medical problems, from lung cancer (marijuana) to liver problems (alcohol) to brain damage (ecstasy [“E”], alcohol and abusing prescriptions). Problems can also happen with one use, particularly if you’re mixing alcohol or other drugs.
In other words, every drug is different, but all the long-term effects are bad. Besides the physical drawbacks, drugs cause major long-term emotional problems, like depression or a lack of coping skills. Alcohol or other drug use can also have a long-term impact on important relationships. People can lose trust and respect if you lie about what you’re doing or how often you use.
