I missed my period. What is going on?

It is really normal for young women to experience irregular periods. You might skip a period. Then have a longer or shorter period. Then you might go back to a normal period. You get the picture.

This process is important, though, because your body is learning to settle into a regular menstrual cycle. In a few months, your body should figure out which cycle is best for you. That might mean a period every 20 days, 28 days, 34 days, or something in between. Some girls have irregular periods their whole lives. But if the bleeding doesn’t become more regular, see a doctor.

There are many reasons why a girl might miss a period, including:
  • Her period cycle hasn’t stabilized yet
  • Stress
  • Too much exercise
  • Strict dieting
  • Pregnancy
A missed period can be the first sign of a pregnancy. If you have had unprotected vaginal intercourse then it is important to know if you are pregnant as soon as possible. Get a home pregnancy test from a store or, better yet, make an appointment with your doctor or at a clinic.

RE: AM i PREGNANT

This sounds like a very complicated situation with a lot of
factors to consider, but I do not think that any of these
procedures would prevent a pregnancy. What is more likely
is that with all of this going on for you, you may be very
stressed and stress can effect a woman's cycle. I can not
tell you if you are pregnant or not online, but I suggest
getting a home test or going to a clinic if you think you
might be. To find a local clinic, see this link:

Becoming sexually active in itself will not cause your cycle
to change. If you feel stressed about becoming sexually
active, the stress can cause a change in your period cycle.
A change in diet or exercise can also change your cycle as
well. It is also normal for young women to experience
irregular periods. If you had unprotected sex, then of
course, pregnancy could certainly be an option. If you are
more then a week late, you may want to get a home pregnancy
test or see your local clinic.

Does having sex for the first time change your cycle...could
you possibly miss a period without being pregnant?

RE: I'm so worried!

Try not to freak out. Stress from school, work or just life
can VERY OFTEN be the reason for an irregular cycle. When
used correctly condoms are very effective at protecting you
from both STDs and unwanted pregnancy, but abstinence is the
only 100% effective method for protecting against both. If
it will help to reduce your stress level after 1 week you
can take a pregnancy test. In the meantime, check out this

I'm so worried!

Posted by: kemari on May 6th, 2008 9:13pm

I am 3-4 days late on my period-I had sex about 10 days ago
and my past 3 periods have been very regular. My bf and I
are very responsible and careful with condoms and nothing
has ever happened (no breaks, etc). I seriously can't think
of any reason that I would be pregnant. But, I have been
super stressed out during the past two weeks. What I need to
know is how often is stress actually the cause of a
late/missed period? Should I take a pregnancy test after a
week? I'm freaking out! Please help

RE: I have a question!

Based on what you are telling me, it does not sound like you
are pregnant. Once you get your period for the month, it
means you did not get pregnant during that cycle. You do
have to be careful though as some women do get spotting (a
little bit of blood) when they are pregnant that they
mistake for their period. That does not seem to be the case
for you. If you are trying to avoid getting pregnant, using
a combination of hormonal birth control and condoms every
time is your safest bet.

I have a question!

Posted by: ToxicRainbow on Mar 29th, 2008 11:04pm

If you get a regular, on-time period after you possibly
think that you might have gotten pregnant, does that mean
that you could still be pregnant? Because with me I thought
that I might have gotten pregnant last month but then my
period arrived on time and it was normal. However, I think
that mine might be a little late this month-- I'm not sure.
Help?

Your girlfriend needs to make an appointment at a health
care clinic or with her doctor to get a definitive pregnancy
test. I'm sorry, there's no way we could know what is going
on with her period or the tests. A health care professional
will be able to answer your questions.

what's wrong?

It's me again. My gf and i don't want unwanted pregnancy.
We're basically not prepared and affraid to tell our parents
about it, if it's so... The thing is she did took a
pregnancy test a week after her supposed to be 'period day'.
The pregnancy test kit gave her "Neutral" result twice. (1st
day after 1 week = Neutral, 2nd day after 1 week = Neutral)
What is this means? She still don't have her period...
thanks in advance...
