Can you get pregnant your first time you have sex?

Yes. And many girls have.

Any time a guy and a girl have vaginal intercourse, pregnancy is possible. Even if a girl has never gotten her period yet, she might be about to get her first period and that would mean she could have ovulated, or released an egg.

Anytime a couple has unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex, they are both at risk for STDs if someone already has an infection. Condoms offer very good protection (although not 100%) against pregnancy and STDs.

If you or your partner want to make an appointment at a family planning clinic to be tested for pregnancy and/or STDs, to get emergency contraception, or to get a reliable method of birth control, you can find one in your area by looking in your local yellow pages under "family planning" or "clinics." You can also click here, or call 1-800-230-PLAN to be connected automatically to the Planned Parenthood health center nearest you.
