Is it possible to get pregnant from . . .

…from "dry sex" -- going through the motions without actually doing it?

It’s possible in certain situations, but not likely. If a couple keeps their clothes on, the risk of pregnancy or disease is practically zero. Sperm, viruses and bacteria can’t swim through fabric.

With no clothes, dry sex gets way more risky. If a guy cums right outside the opening to the girl’s vagina, then those swift and strong sperm can swim in, find an egg and start a pregnancy. And some infections, such as herpes, can spread through skin-to-skin contact, even if there’s no body fluids swapped.

The other dry-sex danger is getting carried away and jumping into sexual intercourse, without being prepared. That’s why you need to set firm limits and stop if you feel like you might give in and go beyond those limits. That’s especially true if you’re having dry sex without any clothes. Both partners need to promise to stop before things go too far.

…from giving oral sex to a guy?

Totally impossible. In order for a girl or woman to become pregnant, sperm have to get into her vagina. From there, they swim up through her cervix, through her uterus, into the fallopian tubes. If the woman is ovulating or has just ovulated (meaning that she releases an egg from her ovary), then a sperm meets the egg (ova) and you get fertilization. There is absolutely no way for this to happen through oral sex. Even if the girl swallows semen, which some do, the sperm cannot get to her ovaries through her stomach -- can't happen.

BUT, if the guy ejaculates anywhere NEAR her vagina, then there is the possibility that she can get pregnant.

Sexually transmitted diseases are a different story. Some are spread through oral sex. So if oral sex is in your near future, be sure to check out this teen-written story.

...during your period?

Yes. You DEFINITELY CAN get pregnant if you have sex during your period. The only 100 PERCENT effective way to avoid pregnancy is to not have vaginal sexual intercourse. Otherwise, some birth control methods are very effective - including Norplant, Depo (the Shot), the Pill, condoms plus spermicide, or a diaphragm plus spermicide. Most of these methods are more than 90 percent effective at preventing pregnancy -- as long as you use them correctly and consistently (every single time!).

Remember, though, the condom is the only method that helps prevent STD or HIV infection, which causes AIDS. So always use a condom, too.

...if there is semen or cum on a guy's hand and he touches a girl's vagina?

If a guy has semen on his hand and then touches his female partner's vagina, it is possible for her to get pregnant, although not very likely. Sperm cannot live long outside of the body. So partly it depends on how long there is between when he ejaculates on his hand and when he touches her vagina. It is best if he washes his hands or at least wipes them off, just to make sure that all the semen is removed before he touches her.

Final note:
If you or your partner want to make an appointment at a family planning clinic to be tested for pregnancy and/or STDs, to get emergency contraception, or to get a reliable method of birth control, you can find one in your area by looking in your local yellow pages under "family planning" or "clinics." I'm sure you know the answer to this because I have seen you
reply to other people's post on the site. Sperm can't get
through fabric, so you would not be pregnant from this. If
you are nervous about the spotting, your best bet is to make
an appointment to see your health care provider and have
them assess what is going on for you. If you need to find a
clinic near you, check out this link:

As it says above, sperm can not swim through fabric of any
kind. So if your sperm only got on her thigh and on her
underwear and not directly on or in her vagina, then there
is no possibility of pregnancy.

before you insert your penis into her vagina. If you have a
condom on when you put your penis into her vagina, it will
reduce her risk of pregnancy, however, if you are not using
a condom, it is very possible that some of your sperm could
get into her vagina and cause a pregnancy. I think at this
point it would be a good idea for you and your partner to go
to a clinic and get tested for STDs and pregnacy. To find a
clinic near you, check out this link:

This practice of what you are doing is very unsafe for
several reasons. Unprotected anal sex can put you and your
partner at a higher risk for STDs because the walls of the
anus can tear easily and bleed. If you use a condom that
reduces this risk. However, inserting your penis into her
vagina right after anal sex without cleaning your penis
first can spread bacteria into her vagina which can cause
very serious infections. If you use condoms, you should take
the one off and put on a new one...

Based on what you have written, no...I don't think that
there is any way. If he had pants on, and you had pants on,
and none of his semen (cum) got near your vagina, then there
is no way it could have gotten inside of you. If either of
you had sperm on your hands, and immediately stuck the hand
with sperm near your vagina, then that could be a different
story. In the scenario you have written, it sounds like you
are safe.

RE: one question...

Posted by: DanR on Jul 22nd, 2008 2:20pm

The answer to your question is...it depends on if he had cum
on his fingers and how long that cum had been there. If his
hands were clean, fingering alone will not cause pregnancy
because there is no sperm to meet with your egg. If he had
just ejaculated on his hand, and then fingered you, the
chances of pregnancy will be higher.
