Where can I get tested for STDs?

Most family planning clinics, public health departments, and hospitals offer free or low-cost testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). A private doctor can also provide STD testing. Call to make an appointment.

When you call, ask about which tests they perform, how much they cost, and whether it's confidential, meaning they keep your testing and results secret. Most clinics test confidentially. Most clinics also provide counseling in case any tests come back positive.

You can also buy HIV test kits online from several services. You can check one out by clicking here. However, we highly recommend going to a clinic for HIV testing. Just in case you test positive it is much better to have some support, like someone knowledgeable and caring to talk to about it.

To find a clinic near you, check the yellow pages under "Clinics" or "Family Planning," or locate a Planned Parenthood Health Center near you at 1-800-230-PLAN (7526) or click here. You can also find a testing center near you through MTV's Fight for Your Rights: Protect Yourself site locator.
