Guys have it tough, always dealing with this macho complex. You know, it's kinda like we're in this competition, trying to beat each other out by "becoming a man" first.
Sometimes it seems the fastest way to get the "man" status is by having sex. I'm not saying that having sex makes you a man. Or that being a virgin makes you a wuss. But telling a locker room full of guys that you "scored" sure earns you some respect.
You know the scene. We're all walking around, snapping our towels, talking about sports, cars and, of course, girls. There's praising—and razzing. The guys who have sex get praised. The guys who don't, get razzed. It's real simple and real stupid.
Sex shouldn't be a contest to see who can do it first or the most. It should be what it is—an act of love between two people. I'm not afraid to admit I'm a virgin, but I can't help feeling the pressure, especially when someone else is getting dissed for not "getting with" their girlfriend. Even if their words aren't aimed at me, they hurt.
There isn't too much to do about that, except stick to your beliefs. It also helps to know you are not the last living virgin in the world. And maybe the best thing to remember is that having sex can't make a boy into a man. That takes responsibility, commitment, caring and tons of other things that have nothing at all to do with sex.
Too bad, but it just ain't that easy.
i know..

I think the author makes some good points. One thing in
particular, is that we face a * {visibility:hidden;}
MASSIVE pressure in this country to conform to the
predominant gender roles.
Girls, too!

I was a virgin until I was 18 and in a committed
relationship. However, up until then there was a lot of
pressure on me to get busy. Other girls would scoff at me,
"You're HOW old and you're still a virgin?" Let's not
pretend that guys are the only ones pressured by their peers
to get laid and get laid often. Even then, the buck doesn't
always stop. Sometimes having had only one partner becomes a
point of contention among both sexes, as if you're still
below par and inexperienced.
